Legitimate right of child to life

Editor: We are very grateful that former P.E.I. Supreme Court Chief Justice Gerard Mitchell has clarified that there is no constitutional right to abortion and that the federal government has indeed the right to place restrictions upon abortion that would respect the legitimate right to life of the child. What most women need is support, not an abortion.

There are three things that Canadians need to remember:

1. Because there is no constitutional right to abortion, governments are not required to provide abortion-on-demand.

2. Medical necessity is rarely a reason women say they have abortions, and provinces are not required to fund non-medically necessary services.

3. Research proves abortion harms women, with short and long term effects that are difficult to heal.

Let’s hope someone will explain this to Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau, and revise the Liberal Party’s federal platform that would financially penalize provinces that do not provide abortion-on-demand.
