Joe McGuirk from McGuirk Bros. Construction installs drywall in the main stairwell at Province House as part of the repairs needed after a large piece of plaster fell from the ceiling in January.

Editor: Well, this is embarrassing. The Cradle of Confederation is decaying from within. The news arrives the same year P.E.I. is marking the 150th anniversary of the meeting in Charlottetown that led to the creation of Canada.

We need to resist the temptation to interpret the trouble hidden within the walls of Province House as a metaphor for the state of the country. Our nation is not in danger of collapse, is it?

There’s another nagging question. Is anyone at Parks Canada truly familiar with the concept of maintaining a regular maintenance schedule? The state of affairs at Province House suggests not.
