Revised Stompin' Tom project
SKINNERS POND - The Board of Directors of Tignish Initiatives has approved a plan for a scaled down version of its proposed Stompin’ Tom Connors commemoration project.
The original plan, announced last summer, was put on hold last November when one of the anticipated funders denied Tignish Initiatives’ funding request. That set off a domino effect with the key funder, Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, requesting a review of the entire project.
Tignish Initiatives general manager, Anne Arsenault, acknowledged that the review recommended the project be scaled back.
The board has accepted the modified plan and re-submitted its application to ACOA. Arsenault said the board must now await a decision on its revised funding application.
The project is proposed for Skinners Pond, on the grounds of the schoolhouse Tom Connors attended as a youth and of the house where he lived with his adoptive family until he set out to hitchhike across Canada, a journey that launched his career as a Canadian country and folk music icon.
