Tables private member's bill to recognize city's heritage

Malpeque MP Wayne Easter tabled a Private Members Bill Thursday entitled An Act to Recognize Charlottetown as the Birthplace of Confederation.

"As we approach the 150th anniversary of Confederation in 2017, the legislation I am tabling today affirms a significant historical event in our nation's history and is a measure I believe all members of this House can support," said Easter. "It is timely and the right thing to do."

Easter also acknowledged the work done on the bill by Charlottetown MP Sean Casey, who is also Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Justice.

Appears that my earlier post had mysteriously gone astray. 'The Birthplace of Confederation' was the meeting in Quebec City, in December, 1865, where PEI voted against the idea - the earlier meeting in Charlottetown was, at best, in pre-natal terms, merely the "initial foreplay'. Still, poiiticians, such as Mr. Easter, have never been found lacking in playing with historical facts to better serve their own ends. No doubt this post will meet the same fate as the earlier one.

Noooooo....none of us knew that? What a smart man knowing that Charlottetown was the "birthplace if Confederation!" I believe we ALL knew that, Mr. Easter!

PEI only held the conference in 1864 and never actually joined Canada until 1873 when our politicians of the day bankrupted the entire island building a railway to nowhere. It joined as a failed welfare state then as it is now !!!

Have we not been down that road before? Stretching the truth of course is a sign of political astuteness.
