Sentence suspended for use of stolen credit card

A P.E.I. man who used a stolen credit card to buy a pack of cigarettes was given a suspended sentence Tuesday in provincial court in Charlottetown.

Sean Michael Lombardi appeared before Judge John Douglas where he was scheduled for a trial, but changed his plea to guilty to using a stolen credit card.

The court heard that on Nov. 24, 2015, someone stole a woman's keys from a locker at the CARI Complex while her daughter was skating.

When she went outside the woman found her keys in the ignition of her locked car and once she was able to get the vehicle unlocked she realized someone had stolen her credit card.

There were several transactions made on the card before the woman was able to call the credit card company.

Among those charges was $13.94 for a pack of cigarettes Lombardi bought at a gas station in West Royalty.

In total, there were six charges on the card worth almost $300.

Another person has been charged in connection with the card theft, but has not been dealt with through the courts yet.

As a condition of the suspended sentence, Lombardi will be on probation for one year and will have to pay $13.94 in restitution to the gas station.

Douglas also ordered him to pay a $100 victim surcharge.

Before I read the article, just by the headline I knew it was good old J. Douglas presiding.

Why bother going to court at all , just a waste of tax dollars with zero result . Maybe a bit of Sharia law would not go astray on PEI , we would have a lot of one-armed bandits but at least they would be easy to spot .
