Communities are mostly in Kings County

The nor’easter is gone and all that is left for Islanders is to dig out and Maritime Electric says that it is still dealing with power outages in 15 communities, mostly in Kings County.

Heavy, wet snow brought down trees onto power lines and

the utility plans to continue updates providing throughout the day as power is restored to different areas.

At one time Maritime Electric had reported outages in 34 communities in eastern P.E.I.

Meanwhile, the heavy snow has left tens of thousands of Nova Scotians without power.

About 43,200 Nova Scotia Power customers were in the dark Saturday in more than 16 communities across the province, from Cape Breton to the South Shore.

Utility spokeswoman Bev Ware, says at one point, 67,000 customers were without power.

The utility says some people may not have power until late Saturday or Sunday morning as crews grapple with heavy, wet snow that has built up on tree branches, causing them to droop over power lines.
