No alternative date available for carts as this coming Saturday set aside for New Years Day customers

Garbage pick up is cancelled for today in West and East Prince.

Island Waste Management Corporation says on its web site that weather conditions are such that it will not be picking up black carts in West Prince today, nor green carts for East Prince, or blue bags either.

There will be an alternative for blue bags only. The ones set for today will be picked up tomorrow, Tuesday.

The corporation is taking a stronger stand on carts for Prince county.

Hold on for the next round of collection, it's saying.

"There is no alternate collection for carts," says IWMC.  "Next Saturday. Jan. 2, has already been scheduled for New Year's Day and there are no other options for the alternate storm day.

"If your cart has reached capacity, please use open rigid containers for excess material. Customers may also use paper yard & garden bags for compostables and clear, transparent plastic bags for excess waste and place these beside the appropriate cart for the next collection."

Did you read my post? I'm not saying that IWMC should be on the road. What I am saying is that it is not fair that IWMC is telling the affected parties to just store your garbage until the next pickup in two weeks. I suspect that many have a bin that is close to overflowing already thanks to Christmas wrappings, packaging and turkey bones etc. Of all the weeks to miss pickup, this has to be the worst possible one. IWMC should have a contingency plan for situations like this or perhaps the province should find a new contractor. (Get it?)

What arrogance on the part of IWMC! Thanks to Christmas, the people in Prince County probably have more waste and compost materials in their carts right now for pickup today than at any other time in the year. Why should the homeowners be the ones who have to incur up an additional expense by having to buy clear bags or other additional disposal containers? IWMC needs better contingency plans.

Take a look out the window............the RCMP are telling us to keep of the roads. You would probably comment about IWMC Trucks slipping of the road into the ditch after the Mounties warning to stay of, get a life.
