AUGUSTINE COVE — The $350,000 replacement of the Augustine Cove Bridge is complete and the bridge is now open to the public.
Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal Minister Robert Vessey says construction of the project began in May following a community information session in Borden-Carleton.
The original bridge was built in 1922 and is believed to be one of the oldest bridges on Prince Edward Island. The bridge was identified for replacement as part of the department’s bridge inspection program.
Vessey says since 2007, the provincial government has replaced or completed major repairs on 53 bridges throughout Prince Edward Island, for a total investment of more than $60 million.
