STRATFORD – Queens and Stratford RCMP along with Island EMS responded to a single vehicle collision that occurred on Route 1 in Stratford at approximately 2:35 a.m. on Wednesday.

A west-bound vehicle struck a traffic light pole, rolled and came to rest on its roof in the east-bound lane. The traffic lights were rendered inoperable for a number of hours.

Paramedics treated the 36-year-old male driver for a minor injury at scene and subsequently was released to police. That driver was then arrested after breath samples showed alcohol levels that exceeded the legal limit. He has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and released for an August court date.

I think the government missed the mark when they designed the newest provincial license plate. It should have had the PEI flag and a silhouette of a staggering person getting in a car.

Another drunk driver! That is not shocking. Get with it justice system, these people make a CHOICE to drink and another CHOICE to drive. Slam them with harsher punishments. These CHOICES take lives every year. WAKE UP!
