Women’s Secretariat awards $62,000 in 2014 grants

The 2014 recipients of Interministerial Women’s Secretariat grants have been announced.

The annual grants provide funding to community organizations that support and enhance awareness, education and social action on legal, health, social and economic equality for women, says Valerie Docherty, minister of community services and seniors.

Applicants were asked to outline their planned projects that would meet at least one of the three themes for 2014: social media and girls (focus on cybersafety), women and leadership (focus on women in business), and engaging male and female youth (grades K-12).

The recipients of 2014 grants are the following:

- Women’s Network P.E.I. ($17,700) for their project Building an Evidence-Supported Strategy for Cyber-Safety in P.E.I.;

- East Prince Women’s Information Centre ($15 ,000) for a project called EGirls P.E.I. - Raise Your Voice;

- P.E.I. Business Women’s Association ($12,800) for a project that will help Island Women in Business Support, Inspire and Succeed;

- Cooper Institute ($7,500) for a project entitled Migrant Women Lead;

- P.E.I. .Coalition for Women in Government ($9,000) for their project on Promoting Gender Equality in Island Youth.

“I want to congratulate each of these organizations for their commitment to providing services and programs that can benefit women and girls across our province,” said Docherty.
