A man was taken to hospital Tuesday afternoon following a car crash on Water Street East in Summerside.

SUMMERSIDE – A man was taken to hospital with potentially serious injuries Tuesday after a head on collision on Water Street East in Summerside.

Police at the scene reported that at roughly 2:15 p.m. a wine coloured Dodge van is believed to have crossed the centre line into the path of an oncoming cement truck.

The collision shaved off part of the driver side of the van and trapped the male occupant. He was the only person in the vehicle.

His condition was unknown at the time but police reported that he’d suffered a head injury. He was rushed to hospital as soon as firefighters could cut him loose from the vehicle.

The driver of the cement truck was not seriously injured.

The collision occurred between Small Avenue and Gillespie Avenue. That section of Water Street was closed for more than an hour as crews worked to clean up debris.
