Maritime Electric crews work in this Guardian file photo.

Sections of downtown Charlottetown lost power earlier this morning, affecting approximately 900 Maritime Electric customers.

The problem was caused by some big branches that had broken on the lines on University Avenue due to heavy ice on trees.

Power was restored at about noon.

Power has also been restored in the Canoe Cove area.

Freezing rain, ice on the lines and high winds are contributing to less than ideal conditions for power lines.
