ST. FELIX — Members of the St. Felix Golf and Country Club have been invited to an information meeting tonight at the St. Felix Community Centre to hear about a lease arrangement for the golf course.

Claude Gaudette, who, as one of the course’s shareholders, had managed the course since it opened in 1999, said the shareholders have agreed to lease the facility to Tignish Initiatives for one year.

Gaudette said he believes leasing it to Tignish Initiatives will help ensure the long-term viability of the course.

“We will try it for this year and hopefully we will see it turn into something positive,” he said, adding, “the last they we want is to see it closed.”

He said the shareholders, who also include his brothers-in-law, Steve, Leonard, Kenneth and Wilfred Christopher, are pleased Tignish Initiatives have agreed to run the operation, and expressed confidence in its resources and business knowledge. Being a not-for-profit community-based organization, he suggested it will be able to access more government programming to contribute to the growth of the facility.

Although Gaudette will no longer be working at the nine-hole course, he said he anticipates many of the regular staff members will be returning.

Tonight's information meeeting is lated for 7 p.m.
