SUMMERSIDE — A Charlottetown man was sentenced to 14 days in jail after pleading guilty Thursday, in Summerside provincial court to a charge of theft.

Leigh William Misener, 25, pleaded guilty in connection to the theft of a men’s necklace from Peoples Jewellers at the County Fair Mall on Nov. 8.

Crown prosecutor David O’Brien said that around 5 p.m. on Nov. 8, Misener and a female companion entered Peoples Jewellers.

Misener tried on a men’s yellow gold, 10-carat necklace and left the store without paying for it. A store employee witnessed the theft and gave chase.

Misener ran to a vehicle in the parking lot driven by an accomplice, Brendan Arsenault. Misener got in the car and the two drove away.

Arsenault was later arrested by RCMP and told police he saw Misener running from the mall with people chasing him.

O’Brien said according to the facts of the case, Misener gave the necklace to Arsenault who traded it for drugs.

Arsenault was sentenced earlier in a Charlottetown court.

The necklace, valued at $3,200 was not recovered.

Ghiz's fault. Everyone knows that people are entitled to own gold chains. Ghiz should be handing them out to all the addicts !
