The City of Summerside has issued an advisory that all Summerside Electric customers will lose power from 4 to 5 p.m. today.

The city says this is so that so Maritime Electric can make urgent repairs to their infrastructure connecting with Summerside Electric.

Maritime Electric communications officer Kim Griffin said the utility's operations team noticed some frayed connectors during recent inspections.

“We had some connectors to some of the wires to some of the insulators on the poles and they were fraying,” she said. “We didn’t want to leave it any longer. So, they have to do the repairs and to do then repairs they have to take the power out.”

Griffin said the cause of the fraying has not been determined.

“Potentially, it could have just been things had become worn down with the kind of weather that we’ve had,” she said. “We’re not sure exactly but they didn’t want take a chance and leave it any longer and that’s why they’re taking the power for the hour.”
