A 54-year-old Charlottetown man was arrested Thursday night following a motor vehicle hit-and-run accident on Babineau Avenue at Malpeque Road.

Charlottetown police received a call about the incident at 10:49 p.m.

The complainant told police he struck a snow bank after being forced off the road by another vehicle. The driver of the second vehicle left the area of the collision but was observed heading towards Canadian Tire.

Officers responding to the call located the accused and attempted to stop him, but he refused to stop and left the area with police in pursuit.

Police later found the accused vehicle lodged in a snow bank on the Winsloe Road and apprehended the driver.

The accused was jailed at the provincial correctional centre. He will be appearing in provincial court at a later date.

Doesn't sound like much of a pursuit, appears like they backed off and found him later.

I do not think anyone should leave the scene of an accident or out run the police but when is the police ever going to learn if someone takes off on them they are not going to stop because they are chasing them get close enough and get their plate # and back off and find out who the car belongs to and go wait for that car to come home instead of endangering everyone on the highway such as this chase last night just about got a young lady killed on her way home by this driver trying to out run the police.
