Prince Edward Island provincial court
A man who stole tools from his father that he later sold to buy drugs will be spending his weekends in jail after a judge sentenced him in provincial court last week.
William Leigh Misener, 25, recently appeared before Judge Nancy Orr in Charlottetown for sentencing after previously pleading guilty to the theft and breaching the conditions of his probation.
Orr sentenced Misener to 15 days in jail for the theft and 45 days for the probation breach, all to be served on weekends.
Misener stole the tools from his father in July and sold them to Most Wanted where they were later recovered.
He breached the conditions of his probation by failing to comply with an order to get an assessment, counselling and treatment for his addictions.
The court heard Misener has since entered the methadone program and Orr said it was good to hear he was taking advantage of the treatment options made available to him.
In handing down the sentence, Orr said it would give him a chance to show he had turned a corner.
“Take these matters seriously and follow up on them,” she said.
