Approximately 8:15 p.m. Saturday Kings District RCMP arrested a man in the parking lot of the Cardigan liquor store when he was found in possession of a stolen vehicle.

The 28-year-old driver ignored police commands, locked himself in his vehicle and fled the scene. While leaving the scene his vehicle struck a police car and a second parked vehicle. Both sustained damages.

The arresting officer was pushed aside by the fleeing vehicle which left Cardigan and headed north on Route 4. The vehicle was stopped a short time later by RCMP near Glenfanning where the driver was taken into custody without incident.

The driver, who is from Charlottetown, is being held in custody pending a further court appearance where he faces multiple charges including dangerous driving, flight from police, assaulting a police officer, breach of probation and numerous theft and possession of stolen goods charges.

A 21-year-old woman from Charlottetown who was a passenger in the vehicle was also taken into custody and is facing breach of probation and possession of stolen goods charges.

Kings District RCMP and Charlottetown Police Service continue to work together on multiple investigations involving both arrested persons.
