Police diverted traffic due to uncertainty about chemicals inside burning trailer

LINKLETTER – Summerside Fire Department was called out to Linkletter today to extinguish a fire in a small transport trailer that was reported to contain chemicals. The trailer was parked outside warehouses off Glenn Drive, which are owned by Linkletter Farms Inc.

Workers in the company's office, located on the opposite side of the street, noticed black smoke coming from the trailer around noon and called 911.

Summerside police temporarily cut off access to the road out of fear that there may have been harmful chemicals burning.

Black and white smoke billowed from the wreck for several minutes as firefighters extinguished the wreck.

The fire was out as of 1 p.m. and the Provincial Fire Marshal's Office was on scene.

There were no injuries.

Linkletter Farms employees working in the office were not sure who owned the trailer but indicated that it was a contractor working in their warehouses.
