Family dog awakens homeowner during Hope River house fire

HOPE RIVER — The family dog is being credited with waking the lone male occupant of a home in Hope River that was heavily damaged by an early morning fire Thursday.

The New Glasgow Fire Department responded to a residential structure fire at approximately 2:40 a.m. on Center Drive in Hope River.

Deputy Fire Marshal Robert Arsenault was called to the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m. and is conducting an investigation.

The main floor sustained fire, smoke and water damage.

New Glasgow had mutual aid assistance from North Rustico and New London fire departments.

The cause and origin of the fire is still under investigation.

    Fantastic work by firefighters,just think if these people didn't volunteer their time to help others in a time of need.Some call them basement savers unless you walk in their shoes you have no right to talk at all!
