Finance P.E.I., a corporation that will over see provincial lending, has been formed.

It encompasses the former P.E.I. Lending Agency and Lending Services and the

properties division of Innovation P.E.I.

The corporation falls in line with commitments outlined in the 2012 throne speech, said Innovation Minister Allen Roach in a news release issued this morning.

“As stated in the 2012 Speech from the Throne, the Government of Prince Edward Island is committed to stimulating activity within the private sector in order to continue accelerating our economic growth," Roach said. "By streamlining our financial supports we are better serving growing businesses who are creating jobs and wealth for Islanders."

Finance PEI is a corporation designed to support economic development in Prince Edward Island by providing loans and credit assistance to Island businesses. The creation of Finance P.E.I. has consolidated commercial lending and strategic real property development into one entity. As a crown corporation of the Ministry of Innovation and Advanced Learning, Finance P.E.I. is now the lead financing and

strategic infrastructure group for the provincial government.

Finance PEI will manage two major government portfolios dedicated to economic development: strategic initiatives and properties; and financing.

The strategic initiatives and properties division is responsible for all real estate held by Finance P.E.I. and its subsidiary companies including properties, land, business

parks and corporate offices.

Under the financing division, Finance P.E.I. will provide counseling services and financing to new and existing businesses that support economic development through job and wealth creation.

""By streamlining our financial supports we are better serving growing businesses who are creating jobs and wealth for Islanders." What a joke this is!!Just another soon to be corrupted money source to be dispersed to more of those with power and their corrupted friends and fools. What jobs have been created by the businesses that were given money that created WEALTH for Islanders. Like Holman? yes, indeed, lots of wealth to islanders and the jobs- high paying and so many. Just when one thinks that they cannot outdo the last stupid thing they did, they just never cease in outdoing themselves. Basic fools and idiots. Both the liberals and tories. If it wasn't ruining the entire province and the future of islanders, it would be laughable, instead it just leaves people in shock.

Will Island Investment Development Inc. (IIDI), the GOVERNMENT entity that handles all PNP monies and was involved in scams like Homburg Tunnel, Homburg Hotel, Homburg Tower, Homburg Theatre, etc. be included in Finance PEI ? Will FOIPP rules apply to Finance PEI ? Will there be third-party MERIT-BASED management of Finance PEI ? And not just typical old-school patronage Islanders ? How about non-Islanders - say bankers from Bay Street or Montreal or Halifax on the board? How about successful business people who serve on boards in other parts of Canada be part of the Board of Directors of Finance PEI? Don't appoint the usual uneducated fools to run this thing. Do it right. And flatten the structure down so that you have minimal staff managing it, minimal investment going out, maximum return coming back in. Even if it means lay-offs - suck it up for once. All of those financing arms of the provincial government should go into Finance PEI ---- IIDI, PEI Lending Agency, Innovation PEI, etc. And there should be complete 100% transparency of where the money is coming from and going to. Remember the key word: MERIT.

I wonder which Liberal toadie did they get to head up this orginization? When programs are failing everywhere, just change the name, keep the same toadies in charge ala Health PEI. It is so obvious that this government (faceitously) hasn't a clue what they are doing. It must be time for Ghiz to take his buddies on a "trade mission" to Egypt, China or perhaps to the Dominican Republic.I'm still waitng for the report to see how many bags the PEI Bag Co. sold to China.(LOL)

How many Liberal patronage jobs have been handed out for this organization, Did the Liberals hire the people who loaned money for the Holman's Hotel?

Were there not agreements proposed last spring federally because of the PNP Scandal that PEI had to change the way things were done due to"Inappropriate practices" I think it was called? This is simply enabling the trough feeders access to more funds. Don't fall for it.

What kind of BS patronage crap appointment is this anyway? How much longer are we going to put up with the crap King Ghiz is declaring from on high? They keep pushing the boundaries to see just how much we will put up with. And guess what, we are still putting up with the crap? WHY?

Wow, this will make the Liberals look better, yet another government agency that will examine the current practices of this government and tell those that will actually believe it, that they are doing great and help Liberal's buddy's to get even more public funds. I can't believe people fall for this.

Will this make it easier for movers and shakers like Tim Banks and Kevin Murphy to get loans that no bank would touch. Minimum wage employers financed by PEI debt. Any article on finance should have a footnote that Ghiz has doubled PEI debt to over 2 billion dollars. funny eh?

Mr Roach can barely tie his own shoes and is the new Alan Campbell. "Yes Ghizzy boss sir, anything you say sir". His Deputy Minister would have been the person who set this up and Minister Henderson just apologized for 8 million in misappropriated funds under Tourism. The famous or infamous Ms MacEachern. Watch, next scandal will be here within 2 years! Mark my words.
