Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for P.E.I., telling residents to expect high winds this afternoon and evening.

A low pressure system over eastern Nova Scotia will track eastward this morning and its associated precipitation will end, the statement says. Flurries and northwest winds gusting to 80 km/h will develop later today and persist tonight. As a result, localized blowing snow is likely across P.E.I.

The windy forecast led the Confederation Bridge to issue an advisory Wednesday, telling travellers to expect some restrictions on the bridge today, beginning after 10 a.m.

Environment Canada calls for the rain showers to change to flurries this morning. Snowfall amount will be 2 to 4 cm with local blowing snow this afternoon. Fog patches will dissipate this morning. Wind will change to northwest 30 gusting to 60 this morning then increase to 50 gusting to 80 late this afternoon.

Local blowing snow is expected this evening with northwest winds, 50 km/h gusting to 80 and a low temperature of -5.
