CANAVOY - Fire Marshal Dave Rossiter has concluded his investigation into the fire that occurred at a single-family residence on the Canavoy Road last week and has ruled it accidental in nature.

Rossiter said Monday the fire started in the living room or kitchen area but the exact cause is undetermined due to the extent of damage.

The two-storey older residence is owned by Everett Coughlin. The fire broke out at about 11 a.m. in bitterly cold conditions last Wednesday.

East River Fire Department responded to the blaze, assisted by St. Peters, Morell, Mount Stewart and North Shore departments.

The home was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene. There was no one home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries. The house was almost gutted inside.
