TRAVELLERS REST - The occupants of two vehicles were taken to Prince County Hospital with injuries following a collision with a tractor trailer along Route 1A Wednesday afternoon.
East Prince RCMP was called to the scene, near Moase Road and just south of the Travellers Rest roundabout, shortly before 4:30 p.m.
Officers at the scene said a tractor trailer broadsided a white van and a beige sedan, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. The tractor trailer apparently left the road, coming to rest in a ditch and a stand of trees not far from a residence.
Police are continuing to investigate how the collision occurred, and said they would issue a news release later in the evening regarding the status of the injuries to the occupants of the vehicles.
Traffic was diverted around a portion of Route 1A, between Reads Corner and the roundabout, which was closed for about an hour while investigators and emergency crews worked at the scene.
