CENTRAL LOT 16 — A Monday house fire that left one person homeless has been deemed accidental by the province’s fire marshal.
Dave Rossiter spent two days at the residence at 1448 Route 12 in Central Lot 16 investigating the cause and origin of the blaze.
The fire marshal said Wednesday that the incident was caused by a fault in a basement electrical circuit.
Firefighters from the Miscouche and Wellington departments responded to the call shortly after 4 p.m. Monday. Crews were able to douse the flames quickly, but the home’s interior sustained heavy heat and smoke damage making it unlivable.
The lone resident of the house was visiting with neighbours when the fire broke out, and was not injured.
Miscouche fire chief Jason Woodbury said Monday that the homeowner found a place to stay with either family or friends.
The investigation into the incident was hindered because the stairs were destroyed by the flames, making it difficult for workers to access the basement.
