MORELL — Improvements have been made to the trails and look-out platforms surrounding Mooney’s Pond and the Jim Anderson Angling Pool on the Morell River.
“Our government invested $44,720 to allow better access to Mooney’s Pond and the Jim Anderson Angling Pool by creating new pathways and upgrading existing trails,” said P.E.I. Senator Mike Duffy.
“This investment helps make the Mooney’s Pond and Jim Anderson Angling Pool areas accessible to more Islanders and visitors than ever,” said provincial Innovation and Advanced Learning Minister Allan Campbell.
“I’m very pleased to have been part of making this upgrade possible and to have helped Islanders get valuable job experience on this project through Skills P.E.I..”
The investment helped the Morell Management Co-op Inc. introduce needed upgrades to the area and trails that included making almost 30 per cent of the trails wheelchair-accessible.
The trail now connects with the Confederation Trail, expanding access to the area for residents and visitors alike.
Along with the improvements to the trails, there have also been renovations made to the existing lodge and a series of lookout platforms have been added.
The province contributed $166,334 through Skills P.E.I.
and Fisheries, Aquaculture
and Rural Development.
“Mooney’s Pond and Jim Anderson Angling Pool is a beautiful part of our community,” said Leo Gill, a Morell River Management Co-op representative.
“With the investments from both levels of government, we were able to make this area even better and now visitors and residents will be able to enjoy this community treasure even more.”
