The P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls is currently seeking expressions of interest from community-based rural halls to host components of the P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls, to take place, June 12-25.
The first Festival of Small Halls was produced by Small Halls Inc. and presented in 2008. The event was an islandwide traditional music event held in 14 community halls across Prince Edward Island and on two Northumberland ferries.
Since then, the annual festival, now known as the P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls, has grown to 43 shows in 43 rural Island community venues in 2015, delighting attendees from all over North America.
The festival brought together musicians, dancers, artists, traditional music fans, and community hall committees to celebrate exceptional music, storytelling, and dance in many small rural halls.
Now in its eighth year, this award-winning festival mixes music and dance from P.E.I.'s rich Irish, Scottish and Acadian cultures, along with the Island's proud tradition of singer-songwriters and storytellers.
“It is our intention to take exceptional shows to treasured places many Islanders have yet to discover, and to provide a high degree of cooperation with the community halls in order to provide an incomparable, cultural experience to our concert goers,” said Chad Stretch, president of the board of directors for Small Halls Inc., the organizer of the P.E.I. Mutual Festival of Small Halls.
“Our staff will be available to work with hall volunteers and staff to answer questions and assist these venues in the rolling out of this fantastic event.”
Expression of interest documents (including criteria for hosting) and application forms have been distributed to community halls across P.E.I. If a small hall did not received the documents by email by Jan. 1, visit www.smallhalls.com or contact the festival office at 902892-2308 or email email@example.com.

The deadline for application forms is Jan. 15.
It must be noted that the local organizing committee may not necessarily be a rural small hall but can be an existing group with organizing experience, an adequate volunteer base and the ability to utilize a local hall and fulfil the criteria outlined in the expression of interest document.
The P.E.I.Mutual Festival of Small Halls staff and board of directors will be responsible for programming all stages, booking the performances, paying performers, providing travel and accommodations, where necessary, marketing the festival and providing all production including technicians and stage management for the concerts.
Small Halls Inc. is making every effort to make the halls aware of the application process, however it is possible that the planners do not have current contact information for every hall.
If a hall would like to participate but doesn't receive notification via email, it is up to each individual hall to contact the festival office.
Schedules and ticket information for the 2016 Festival will be announced in March.
