STRATFORD - The Town of Stratford’s Winter Carnival kicks off this week, with a series of events for all ages and two new fundraising events to support youth.

On Saturday, Feb. 13, the Stratford skatepark steering committee will host a Valentine’s casino and dance fundraiser. Taking place from 7 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Stratford Town Centre, the event will begin with casino games at 7 p.m. followed by a prize auction around 10 p.m. A $10 ticket includes some casino money to get started and admission to the community dance beginning at 11 p.m. Tickets are on sale in advance at Stratford Town Centre during regular office hours or at the door.

Also new this year is a family festival, hosted by the Stratford Youth Centre, 1-5 p.m. on Islander Day.

This event will include inflatables, games, mini golf, face-painting, balloon-twisting and more. Families can purchase a bracelet or individual tickets, with proceeds going to the Stratford Youth Centre. There will be free activities all afternoon in the family lounge. All family festival activities take place at Stratford Town Centre.

Families are also invited to come out to the Town Centre today for free family play in the gym, 6-7 p.m., and then take in the family movie at 7 p.m. in the Southport Room.

The 2016 Stratford Winter Carnival includes returning favourites on Saturday such as the always popular Lions Club pancake breakfast and official opening, winter trout fishing at Pondside Park, the build-a-birdfeeder event and a free skate at the Pownal rink.

There will be outdoor playtime at Cotton Park on Saturday afternoon and sleigh or wagon rides and a petting zoo at Great Northern Adventures on Sunday.
