The annual holiday concert from the Confederation Centre Youth Chorus takes place this evening at 7:30 p.m.
Sing Noel — an evening of classic Christmas carols performed by the large youth choir joined by Joey Kitson and host Wade Lynch — was rescheduled from Sunday afternoon due to the winter storm.
The youth chorus is led by Donald Fraser, musical director at Confederation Centre of the Arts.
"Young voices, great music, and Christmas. What could be better than that?" he said, amidst a busy rehearsal schedule for several holiday concerts. "The beauty and purity of these blended voices in three and four parts cannot be equaled."
Selections consist of both contemporary and classic Christmas carols, including Welcome Yule, O Come All Ye Faithful, In Bethlehem, Star Carol, Angel Tidings and O Holy Night.
“I find the tradition of Sing Noel gets me in the Christmas spirit every year,” said Kitson, of Rawlins Cross, who makes this concert a regular part of his holiday calendar. “It’s a break from the hustle and bustle; gathering with family and friends to enjoy the sounds of the season. To me, that's the best part of Christmas.”
Fraser appreciates the pop rock sensibility that Kitson delivers alongside the talents of the youth choir. “Joey brings the lighter side of the holiday season with some great swingin' tunes and classic Christmas tunes performed in the pop idiom,” he adds.
