Young business owner mixing things up at P.E.I. liquor stores

The Prince Edward Island Liquor Control Commission is offering a fun and interactive way for customers to find new ways to mix their drinkes.

Be Your Own Bartender (BYOB) kiosks are touch-screen computer systems that will allow customers to browse over 6,000 recipes. Consumers in liquor stores will be able to search by ingredient or keyword, find something that looks interesting, then print out the recipe of what they need to purchase along with instructions on how to make the cocktail.

Young P.E.I. entrepreneur Matt Sullivan is the owner of the new kiosk business.

“We hope that customers find the kiosks helpful and entertaining, whether they are looking for how to make a great Long Island ice tea, or are looking for a punch recipe when hosting a party," Sullivan said.

"If we can develop a strong case study here on P.E.I., then I believe there is an opportunity to expand these kiosks into other markets.”

BYOB kiosks are going into four PEILCC corporate retail outlets this summer, including: Oak Tree in Charlottetown, West Royalty, Cornwall, and Granville Street in Summerside.

Jamie MacLeod, director of corporate services for the commission, said, “This is a great opportunity to both enhance the customer experience and educate them on how to make unique cocktails.”

Be Your Own Bartender kiosks are currently in three Charlottetown area PEILCC stores and will be launching in Summerside this summer.

The kiosks currently feature recommended “summer drink” recipes for customers to enjoy.
