Kevin Murphy has been re-elected as president of the Hotel Association of Prince Edward Island.
The association represents major hotel operators on Prince Edward Island.
With this nomination, Murphy will also represent the association on the Canadian Hotel Association’s board of directors.
Murphy is a long-time hotel operator and presently operates the Great George Hotel, recent winner of a World Luxury Hotel Award, as well as The Hotel on Pownal.
Murphy also operates a number of restaurants in Charlottetown and two breweries, the Gahan Brewery and the Prince Edward Island Brewing Company.
The association works closely with the provincial government and City of Charlottetown in the meetings and convention business, the activities of Discover Charlottetown and is responsible for the collection of the marketing levy that is used to market Charlottetown both to the meetings and convention planners, sporting events, concerts and other activities that attract overnight visitors.
Murphy said the season is off to a great start with the East Coast Music Awards in Charlottetown in April along with a good number of meetings and conventions in May and June.
“With all that and the 2014 celebrations that are planned, the summer and fall should be strong as well and provide operators with one of the best years since the opening of the Confederation Bridge in 1997,’’ Murphy said.
