Charmaine Stubbert takes a look at the expanded produce section at the new Souris Co-op. Souris Co-op Food Market is celebrating its grand re-opening of its newly renovated store.
SOURIS — The Souris Co-op Food Market has a new look, new services and has added four new staff.
Store manager David Fraser says the project is one of the most significant the co-op has undertaken since it was rebuilt in 1986.
He said with the planning and arrangement of the financial package, the project will have taken more than 18 months to complete.
“This project was well needed to keep current with today’s needs of a fresh market. Many of coolers and equipment were used when the store was built in 1986 and getting very tired looking.”
To mark this community achievement, the store’s board, manager and staff are hosting an opening celebration on Thursday, June 19 at 5 p.m. The event will include the official ribbon cutting at 5:30 p.m. Special guests will include Co-op Atlantic CEO Paul-Émile Légère, local MLAs, as well as the executive management team.
Souris Co-op president Arthur Baker said he’s proud of how the board and management came together to make this project a success.
“They did it for the members,” Baker said. “I want to thank them and the community for their continued support. It’s very encouraging to see the membership supporting their business.”
Fraser also expressed his gratitude to the staff for their team effort.
“We’re very excited with the whole project. We have a great staff, everybody is pulling together. It’s a pretty big project that we took upon us, and we’re very happy with the results.”
