PPCLI Lt Pays the ultimate price in Kandahar RIP

3 PPCLI Lieutenant Justin Garrett Boyes,

One Canadian soldier was killed and two were injured Wednesday in Afghanistan by an improvised explosive device.

Lt. Justin Garrett Boyes, 26, was killed when his foot patrol was hit by the blast, at about 9 a.m. local time, 20 kilometres southwest of Kandahar City in Panjwayi district.

Boyes belonged to the 3rd Battalion Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry based in Edmonton and was 10 days into his second deployment to Afghanistan when he was killed. At the time of his death, Boyes was mentoring an Afghan national police patrol.

Two other soldiers who were wounded in the incident were treated at the Kandahar Airfield medical facility and are in good condition.

Boyes is survived by his wife Alanna and son, James, 3, his parents Angela and David, a brother serving with the 2nd Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry in Shilo, Man., as well as a sister living in the U.K.

In Kandahar, Brig.-Gen. Jonathan Vance called Boyes a dedicated family man who spent every possible moment with his wife and son.

Growing up in Saskatchewan, he was an easy-going Prairie boy who preferred sitting around the backyard with good friends, his family and a cold drink.

Sincere condolences and prayers to Lt Boyes wife, son, mother, father, brother and all his brother's in arms at this tragic time.

While mentoring Afghan National Police a cowardly taliban IED took the life of this young soldier. Two of his comrades were wounded and my prayers go out to the soldiers and their families. May God give them a safe and speedy recovery, and return them to their loved ones.

Remember Everyone Deployed

How sad and tragic that Canada has yet again lost another soldier. Whether he was just over there 10 days or five months, his family, friends and Canada will still mourn his loss and the grief that goes with it will still be as painful. My sincere condolences goes out to the family and friends of Lt. Boyes . Here's wishing a speedy recovery for his comrades that were injured as well. Thank you to all military members, whether you are at home or deployed and as well our veterans. br If you want to show your support to our troops then please plan to attend the Red Rally on Fri 6 Nov 09 starting at 11:30 in the atrium of the Daniel J MacDonald Building on Grafton Street. Just simply wearing red on any Friday will let them know that we are at least thinking of them and showing them the support they well deserve. That is the only thing that a lot of them ask of you.
