Update on 11 March Story "Global Assistance required"

Well done to all who joined in the search for Pte A.A.Gunn RCASC or his family. Unfortunately he passed to the advance party in 1993.

To refresh your memory this is what was Blogged on March 11/08

This is an excerpt of an e-mail message I recently received. ----------- I am writing you on behalf of a gentleman here in Holland who found a bracelet in his garden. He thought that it had belonged to a Canadian soldier who had lost it in April 1945 during the liberation of Apeldoorn, or maybe later during the stay of Canadian soldiers in Apeldoorn and surroundings until December 1945.

It is inscribed with: A.A. Gunn, serial nr B 113993, and has the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps badge engraved.

This gentleman would like to return the bracelet to Mr. A.A. Gunn; if he will be deceased, to his next-of-kin.

Could you give me some advice how to proceed to find Mr. A.A. Gunn or his family? I checked the database of the CWGC and since this name is unknown, A.A. Gunn was not killed in action.

Jelle Reitsma Brigadier-general Royal Netherlands Army (ret.)

Today I am Happy to report that Pte.A.A.Gunn's Son and Daughter will repatriated with the bracelet their father lost during the Liberation of Holland by Canadian troops in 1944.

Our part in the effort to match the RCASC bracelet found in Holland with the owner [Pte A.A. Gunn] or his heirs has resulted in receipt of the following e-mail today: > We are pleased to announce that the son and daughter have been contacted by VA and the bracelet is to be returned to its rightful heirs at a special anniversary luncheon for veterans on April 12th. The branch is celebrating 80 years as a Branch of the Royal Canadian Legion that day and several long serving veterans who would have been friends of Archie Gunn will be in attendance. Thank you for your interest and efforts in this story... We find it very exciting.

Walter Wallace President Branch 25 Royal Canadian Legion

Well done to all RCASC Association members and non members who assisted in the repatriation this bracelet.
