Military Blog Site - with Robby McRobb Blog

Thankyou to Supportive Canadians.....Military Families Support Centres.

I would like to thank the Iceberg Vodka company for their generous donation to the Military Families Fund.

General hillier accepted cheques in the amount of $70,000 this will certainly help the fund. I however have one question. The article and the TV announcer of this story said this money will help families who cannot pay for funerals I was/am undedr the impression that Military funerals are paid for directly from the DND? Will someone please advise if I am wrong in this matter.

Iceberg Vodka Gives Cdn. Soldiers, Families Financial Boost

They put their lives on the line for our country everyday. And while you can't put a price on someone's life, a financial boost for Canadian soldiers and their families was well received Saturday. General R.J. Hillier, Canada's top military commander, proudly accepted a cheque worth more than $35,000 on behalf of Canadian soldiers and their families from the Canadian Iceberg Vodka Corporation. Half of the money will go toward helping families pay for funerals they can't afford and the rest of it will be put toward supporting and assisting military families across the country.

The second story this weekend is:

Children of killed Canadian soldiers given scholarships. The Canadian Press

Three children of Canadian soldiers who died on duty have been awarded the first grants from a new educational fund.

The Canada Company fund, which draws on support from businesses, aims to supplement the benefits provided children who have lost a military parent.

The fund provides scholarships of $4,000 a year for up to four years to offset some of the costs of post-secondary education.

The students receiving the money at a ceremony in Toronto on Saturday were Michel Girouard from Petawawa, Ont., Myriam Mercier from Quebec City and Adam Naismith of Moose Jaw, Sask.

Canada Company chairman Blake Goldring said the scholarship is a small but tangible way to show the support of Canadians for soldiers and their families.

A heartfelt Thankyou to both of these Canadian Corporations from the Silent Warriors. The families, friends and Loved ones who are left behind.

Even dogs are wearing Red Scarves in support!!!
