A further Fatality in Kandahar...Shake your head Mr Dion

As Canadians rise to go to work, school or a day off. The saddest news again on the morning CBC. Another young soldier killed and two more wounded.

Twenty-one-year-old Sapper Etienne Gonthier died during a road-clearing operation. Two others were injured in the blast. Gonthier, a combat engineer born in Quebec City, was based in Valcartier, Que., with the 5ieme Regiement du Genie de Combat.

He is the 78th Canadian soldier to die in Afghanistan since the Canadian mission began in 2002.

Mr Dion pay attention these young men were in fact assisting the Afghan people Not on an offensive mission. It is a sad fact of life for our troops that they are targeted while trying to bring a better quality of life to the Afghan People

The soldiers were using bulldozers and other equipment to search for mines during a road clearance operation when their vehicle hit an improvised explosive device (IED). The incident, which took place about 35 kilometres southeast of Kandahar City in Panjwaii district, occurred at 1:40 p.m. local time Wednesday.

Through their devotion and effort, our soldiers bring the hope of a better life for the Afghan people, Brig-Gen. Guy Laroche said from Kandahar.

A life that provides an opportunity for Afghan children to grow up in peace as young Canadians do back home.

The four young men killed this month have all been lost by IED's. The cowardly taliban choose to fight this way as they are terrified of facing Canadian or NATO Troops face to face, rather suicide bombers or roadside IED's are their tactics.

As this young soldier goes to the advance party, our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones who have also given the ultimate sacrifice. May the Lord bless and keep him on the right.

Please wear Red in remembrance and in support of our brave troops. Not just on Fridays but whenever you feel like showing support.

Robby...... Well stated. Unfortunately the politicians and other uninformed people don't seem to understand that the threat to our troops will still exist regardless of whether they are involved in an advance to contact on a combat mission or escorting a humanitarian supply vehicle. Sadly, the NATO forces are going to have casualties and fatalities no matter what their mandate is. Nil Sine Labore and remember the Lilly Whites of which you were one. Bev
