Will the motion carry?

For the first time under the current Liberal government someone other than a Liberal or PC MLA brought a motion to the legislature floor Thursday.

Independent MLA Olive Crane introduced a motion calling for a review of the number of representatives in the house and needed a seconder, which she got in government house leader Sonny Gallant.

The person who seconds a motion usually stands to speak to its merits, but here’s what Gallant said instead:

“It’s my duty as government house leader to second the honourable member from Morell-Mermaid’s motions. This does not indicate my support for these motions. It is protocol so the honourable member can bring motions to the floor of the legislative assembly for debate.”

This is a very important issue about how motions are carried. Presently the "Party" runs the elected representatives like trained seals. There is no independent elected representation. Majority governments Federally and Provincially are being operated in a cavalier manner of a dictatorship.
