To all readers of the Happy new Year Blog, your vision was not impaired from too much celebrating the crest of HMCS Vancouver was out of focus. Apparently the cyberspace people decided the picture was too small so it enlarged it. Yet when one double clicked their cursor the original size showed up in Focus. If that is the only problem for 2012 it will be a great year.
Sadly many events are not starting out as good for the world nor indeed for the New year.
Iran, missile testing, nuclear improvements, posturing in the straits of Hormuz. This will not end with simply using trade and monetary embargoes.
Syria despite the prescence of Arab League monitors the violence and killings of civilians goes on.
About 60 monitors are in the country to verify the implementation of the Arab League plan, which calls for an end to all fighting, the withdrawal of troops from the streets and the release of political prisoners.
There has also been criticism of the head of the monitoring team, Sudanese Gen Mustafa al-Dabi - who is regarded by some as biased towards the Syrian government.
The Arab spring has not blossomed in Syria and President Bashar al-Assad has not ordered his troops to stop firing at protesters nor has he removed armour from the streets.
taliban talks both the US and France agrre on talks with the taliban to see what they want for Afghanistan. As far as I am concerned one cannot have productive talks with 14th century militants,. They have no code of honour for anyone except themselves. They treat women as chattels to say the least as Slaves to say the truth. The taliban will say whatever the US and France wishes to hear!!! Tha's guaranteed then when NATO and ISAF leave Afghanistan they will continue with their killings and torture of any citizen they feel looked at them the wrong way.
I pray that 2012 is a peaceful one for Canada but cannot forget that our Troops will once again be sent in to hostile territories when NATO or the UN asks.
On that note our Governmemnt must continue upgrading and training of our military, simply to keep Canada Free.
As for securing Parliament Hill this is long overdue. I know that during my time at 24 Sussex and on the Hill. I was shocked at the lack of security.
Please show support for our Troops and their families in this year of our Lord 2012. As Canada approaches her 145th Birthday
