It is difficult to believe that 52 years ago I came across an advertisement in the old Star weekly. An ad which changed the entire route of my life. The ad was titled "Get going in a man's world" It described life as a Soldier Apprentice, trades training and education. This ad caught the eye of many young Canadian Boys. From Newfoundland to BC and indeed the territories. 16 years of age and full of vim and vinegar. Boys from Cabbagetown, Joe Batts Arm, Small touwn Saskatchewan signed on filled with Pride and a bit of trepidation.

Recruiting now a days catches the eye of our young men and women with Videos and TV Shows. A modern way to recruit a professional military.

The Canadian Army has created two reality series, Basic Up and Basic Up: Reloaded, which follow recruits from enrolment through basic training. The series is intended to provide an entertaining and informative look at the physical and emotional challenges of basic training and does not present a proportionally accurate percentage of time spent in the classroom.

Since the shows were filmed, many changes to training methods and approaches have been implemented at the Canadian Forces Leadership and Recruit School (CFLRS). The changes reflect the on-going philosophy of Train to Succeed, which seeks to inspire, coach, train, mentor and motivate in order to ensure that recruits realize their full potential.

Visit this site to see the  Advertisements. There really is no life like the Military, especially under a Government and specifically a Minister Of National Defence who cares about our Troops.
