Congratulation From Canada

Congratulations from Canada

Canadians today watched a moment in History with the Royal Wedding of HRH Prince William and Kate Middleton. I reflected on the traditions of our Military that link Canada to England. We as part of the Commonwealth have always been part of the British Fabric and indeed the Monarchy.

For example watching the Guards Regiments in their Red Tunics and Black Shimmering Busby’s. To this day the traditional Busby’s are made from Canadian Black Bear pelts.

The seats in the Abbey, that Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh were seated upon are also Canadian, donated by the Canada Club in 1949

. Canada Club

In 1949 the Club presented two chairs and faldstools of native birch in memory of Canadians who died in the 1939-45 war. These are used by the Sovereign and consort when they attend services at the Abbey. A Faldstool is: fald·stool –noun; a chair or seat, originally one capable of being folded, used by a bishop or other prelate when officiating in his own church away from his throne or in a church not his own. ; a movable folding stool or desk at which worshipers kneel during certain acts of devotion. ; such a stool placed at the south side of the altar, at which the kings or queens of England kneel at their coronation.

I am sure that any of our Troops serving in far flung corners of the world, watched bits and pieces of the ceremony on line or via satellite. For the troops that were unable to see the event they will watch next time that they are in a civilised place.

I remember fondly that day in June 1953 standing with my Granma Peggy Rae watching the Coronation procession of Her Majesty our Queen, along the Mall in London. Since that June day, I have had the honour and privilege of serving the Royal Family in many areas of my life.

Over the years I had the pleasure of travelling with many members of the Royal Family from the Late Queen Mother to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth and many members of her family.

I have been privileged to attend a Garden party hosted by Her Majesty and also to have a beer or two in Buckingham Palace.

Canada’s Military and Canadians Congratulate the newest Duke and Duchess of Cambridge. Who one day will be King and Queen of our Commonwealth.

The latest link to Canada is the gift given by the City of London to Prince William and his bride. An eco friendly tandem Bicycle which was built in Canada.
