What a lovely program last evening on CBC. The fiftieth anniversary of “ Coronation Street” I have been a life long fan for a good percentage of those 50 years. I was very pleased to see the crew of HMCS Fredricton being interviewed about watching Corrie. I know in my military time there were months when I could not see the program, yet as soon as I was in an area where it was on TV. You would catch up in a hear beat. The HMCS Fredricton crew were offered respite from their anti piracy duties, in the Persian Gulf. They were able to link to a satellite carrying the program. It is small things like this TV Program that add to morale in foreign ports.
This Christmas all being well the Crew will be in Port for Christmas with their families.
Now to erroneous, reports from Iran, that a female prisoner who was sentenced to death by stoning has been released. Apparently this is not so. The poor woman remains in Custody.
As in Afghanisrtan this woman has little or no personal ,rights nor freedoms. Sad to say, after all these years. Canada has been doing their best with organisations like CIDA, Care Canada, Vision Canada to insure the education of Afghani Women. The introduction of women presenters on TV, is dangerous for the women involved as most TV stations are run by Warlords http://www.foreignpolicy.com/articles/2010/09/23/warlord_tv
I saw a program with a Canadian Afghani Female presenter. Mozhdah Jamalzadah, is a Canadian who was born in Afghanistan and she hosts a talk show like “The View”, Her Father in Vancouver is very proud of her. She has body guards 24 hours a day as she is quite controversial in Afghan Culture.

It is items like this that show a glimmer of hope for Afghanistan.
