Monday Morning 19 Days till Santa Arrives

Van Doos at Work

T'Was the Night Before Christmas (Army Style)

Once again Canada is in the front lines of Afghanistan

Van Doos go on the offensive in Kandahar

By Murray Brewster, The Canadian Press

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan - NATO and Afghan forces are on the move in western Kandahar in what could be one of the last big pushes involving Canadian troops before the combat mission ends next summer.

A large combined assault group of Canadian, American and Afghan troops are headed into a longstanding Taliban redoubt, a restive area known as the Horn of Panjwaii.

The arid patch of farmland has been fought over for years; taken, retaken several times and abandoned as coalition forces struggled to hold the region with only a few thousand soldiers.

As we at home prepare for a Family Christmas, our Van Doos and others will be laying their lives on the line once again, in this Corrupt, Untrustworthy  Land. The Billions of Dollars and priceless number of lives paid into this country, will never change it. We may make inroads in some areas but at what cost? Soldiers from many Christian Countries are away from their loved ones this Christmas again? I cannot forget the soldiers not of the Christian Faith who are also serving in Afghanistan. They too are apart from Loved ones.

Will this ever stop ? ? ?  I certainly doubt it.

At home the donation of 1000 Christmas trees to the families of soldiers serving far away is a fine gesture. As well as the MP who is trying to get 3000 Tim Cards to send to the troops. Well done in the Candian Spirit of Christmas

Here on PEI a Preserve Company is offering free delivery for purchase going to the troops.

Well seeing as how Postage is free  to Military Addresses Overseas during Dec. This is little more than an advertising Ploy. How uniquely PEI Bah Humbug to you/

Wilkileaks has  certainly got the world talking, nothing better than Gossip whether right or wrong to get tongues wagging. I do feel  though, that they are very dangerous and indeed can and will cause a lot of Diplomatic Headaches. That is not to mention the breaches of security for our Foreign Service Officers and their families and of course our troops,

Please Think of our men and women serving Canada and away at this precious time of the year. Say a prayer for them and their families, at Church, Chapel, Temple, Synagogue. Mosque or in the privacy of your safe home in Canada.

Todays PDF is a Soldiers version of T’was the Night Before Christmas, sent to me by my baby Brother Joey in Snowy Ontario.

Thanks Joe.

This Film from the Archives is 28 Minute Long but GREAT !!

From a Retired Soldier Apprentice: Hi Al, I got this from an Armoured Corps friend of mine and think that you might enjoy seeing it.  Take care, Patrick Buzzel

Here’s a page from the past, about the late ‘50’s or early ‘60’s, taken from the National Archives.  It’s a pretty decent snapshot of our “modern” Army of the day, complete with Bren guns, Centurion tanks, the Canadian Guards and the Black Watch.  Good stuff, if a little overblown for an American audience.
