Disgraceful Phone Calls

Minister National Defence

I am saddened to hear of some low life terrorising members of Canada's Invisible Army. To see our media outlets call them PRANKSTERS this is a terrible term. They are simply low life slugs with not an ounce of caring nor indeed patriotism in their bodies.

By The Canadian Press

QUEBEC - A prankster's calls to military families with news that their loved ones have been killed in Afghanistan are being castigated as "insensitive, amoral and disgusting."

The Canadian military is investigating.

A spokesman for Quebec's CFB Valcartier says a prankster phoned several families, including one soldier's wife to say her husband had been killed by a bomb on the battlefield.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay called such crank calls "despicable."

These phone calls could cause untold harm both physically and mentally to the person receiving them. If a young pregnant wife received such a call who is to say she may not mis carry. All because some low life  thinks its a laugh.

to all members of the Invisible Army please remember this:

Military procedure always calls for a unit commander to visit a soldier's next of kin in person when there has been a death.

This does not make it any easier, thats for sure.

To the person or persons who have been making these disgraceful calls. I hope that the Surtee, RCMP, or the Military Police catch you, lock you up charge you and then send you to Sarposa Prison in Kandahar, where you will complete your sentence. We have Canadian Mentors teaching at that prison and you could be the prime example of a Canadian Criminal for training Purposes.

I know I am Ranting but folks this is a very serious incident.

Please show support for our Troops and their Families.

Hopefully the person or persons responsible for making such horrific phone calls is soon caught. I don't know what punishment would be harsh enough for those responsible. Maybe doing 1,000 hours of community service for military families would make the person realize the heartache caused.

I can only imagine what it would be like for a spouse to receive a phone call in the middle of the night only to be told that your loved one has just been killed, even though there are certain military procedures to notify military member's next of kin. I hope these individuals get caught and as Minister McKay said in a TV interview on the news yesterday, be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
