Military Blog Site - with Robby McRobb Blog

Monday Morning Musings

Weary Warrior

My first Monday on the new site. The old site was for myself far easier to operate in that I had control of where photos went with the stories. Now everything must be cleared and  authorised by a Blog editor. A small change but I feel it is now affecting the number of viewers to the site. It also means that anyone commenting on the site must also have their comments vetted and that I do not see them till insertion. Never the less we carry on, in hopes that readership will increase as we all get used to the new format.

The most worrying musing to me this Monday is the story of either one or two US naval personnel who were either Captured together or one was killed and one captured. Dependant upon what news article we read. This is extremely sad news for any member of these sailors families. The taliban are not known for their fair and humane treatment of anyone. I pray that they are located and rescued soon.

Get well soon to Capt. Brian Bews  his CF-18 malfunctioned during rehearsals in Lethbridge. Fortunately he ejected safely. Once again training plays a big part in his emergency actions.

I was amazed to see that some saudi clerics have authorised women not to wear the niquab or burka in foreign countries. They claim this will ease tensions some what in Europe.

I re-iterate what I wrote once before. Departing LHR for Saudi, the arab women are in mini skirts, revealing tops etc. Just like any other European Woman. On the a/c they chat and sip their pink gins. Upon approaching Saudi airspace the Captain announces that we are approaching the airspace and that the bar will now close. These women then head for the washrooms don their Black Burkas covered from head to foot and take their seats. The reverse is also true upon lift of from Riyadh or Jeddah they are clad in the full burkha. After take of the pilot announces we have now left Saudi airspace and the bar will open. These women then rush to the washroom remove the Burka and re enter in their finest garb, to order their pink gin. My point is why this double standard within Islam?

As our soldiers fight on in Afghanistan the clash of cultural beliefs must be as mystifying to them as me. They see, women trying to be free to dress and to study as they wish. the cowardly taliban certainly use the burkha as a weapon of war dressing suicide bombers in burkhas so as they will attract less attention from Afghan policemen or soldiers.

That's it for this Monday.

Please show support for our troops and their families who have a lot of stress during these dangerous tours of Duty
