CINDY DAY: Sharing your piece of the Rock

Far be it from me to tell these good people what to do, but wouldn't this make a stunning Christmas card? Sharon and Paul Fudge were out for a stroll with their son, Shane, and Grandson, Wes, at the Old Town Site in Gander, N.L. Someone had to take the photo, so Wes's mom Katherine stepped up to capture the magic.

Today, where I sit, is a holiday – Heritage Day.  In some parts of the country, it's Family Day. I am aware that it is not a holiday in Newfoundland and Labrador, so I want to take this opportunity to reach out to you.

I moved to Atlantic Canada more than 20 years ago.  I have had the good fortune of meeting and working with many Newfoundlanders. I have visited your province on several occasions.  Every trip has me wanting to see and learn more about Canada’s most easterly province.

Right now, that’s not a viable option.  Until the pandemic is over, or until we are all vaccinated, we’ll have to find other ways to stay connected.

Each Monday, I publish three photos on my weather page; one from Nova Scotia, one from Newfoundland and Labrador, and one from Prince Edward Island.

I have a few regular and very loyal contributors in Newfoundland and Labrador who take and share lovely photos so that the rest of us can share in the beauty of your vast province. Selfishly, I want to see more! I also believe that your many friends and family members outside the province, are a little homesick and would love to journey back through your photos in their local publications.

So, I’m asking you to make a point of inviting three friends to share the beauty of your homeland with the rest of us who so dearly would love to be there.

You can email your photos to [email protected]

Have a wonderful week!
