Well, the weekend is just around the corner, school is out, the kids have been home for a few months now, and you haven’t been to church, Bingo, or a hockey game for a while.

These are trying times. Our planet is sick – we are suffering: pandemic, racial tension, financial concerns, and more.

We will get through this, together. My grandmother would say: “laugh a little, you’ll feel better.” She might have been on to something.

Have you ever heard of laughter therapy? It’s a type of therapy that uses humour to help relieve pain and stress and improve a person’s sense of well-being. I might have just what the doctor ordered. I’d love for you to join me for “The Armchair Gala,” in support of Rocmaura Foundation, this Saturday.

Rocmaura is a wonderful long-term care facility in Saint John, N.B. For seven years, I have had the pleasure of hosting its annual fall fundraiser. This is year eight and now, more than ever, it needs our support.

I’ve come to know many of the front-line workers who keep our society’s most valuable citizens safe. I’ve also developed friendships with the administrators and the hard-working people behind the scenes who make sure these precious people are safe and loved.

Today, so many of us are caring for aging parents, so we realize how difficult and stressful this can be. Since the beginning of March, our eyes have been opened to the challenges our front-line workers face every day. This is where we come in.

Saturday evening, from my home in Dartmouth, I will be co-hosting a 90-minute event that will take you inside Rocmaura and inside the hearts of the residents and heroes who work there. We are thrilled to have James Mullinger, one of the top comedians on the go, to help take us through some laugher therapy. And yes, this is a family-friendly show.

I know some days after I read or watch the news, I sit back and say I wish I could do more. This is a little something that you can do even if you don’t know anyone at Rocmaura. It’s a show of support for the amazing care workers who are going above and beyond during these difficult times. I hope you’ll join me, James, and a few very special guests, Saturday night for our Armchair Gala as we celebrate our seniors and front-line heroes. A $50 donation per person includes a charitable tax receipt. All proceeds go to enhance the quality of life of our loved ones at Rocmaura Nursing Home.

All the information you need is here.

If you’d rather, Sally Cummings is the director of the Rocmaura Foundation and she would love to speak with you by calling 506-643-7090.

I hope to see you Saturday night!
