It’s been said that fall is a season of transition and nothing could be more true as we head into the first weekend of October. Late last week, there was a big dip in the jet stream over western Canada and that pulled cold air and snow down across the prairies. The jet stream has flattened out now and when that happens, systems whiz by very quickly. We’ve experienced that this week with a rain system Wednesday, sun Thursday and another weak system today. Our weekend is going to be quite lovely, albeit windy and cool tomorrow.

On Sunday, the wind will shift to the south ahead of a long-wave trough that will approach from the west. That trough is expected to create a bulge in the jet stream and bring us to the milder side of normal for a couple of days. Right now, I’m watching an area of energy that’s starting to come together along that trough; it could develop into quite a little rain and wind storm for us Tuesday into Wednesday. I’ll keep you posted.
