One week ago today, it was Ash Wednesday. In my daily column, I talked about Grandma and how she would take note of the wind direction on Ash Wednesday. On the first day of Lent, she could be overheard saying: “Wherever the wind lies on Ash Wednesday, it continues during all Lent.”
I’d like to share a few of your observations:
Janet Elaine White: “The weather station in Western Head says Easterly, but it also reported current weather conditions as sunny two hours after sunset on Friday so I’m thinking it’s a little off but it does feel like it’s off an iceberg so it most likely is out of the East.”
Marlene Joy: “No wind on P.E.I. this morning, but from north east this evening, guess a storm is blowing in.”
Yolande Bastarache: “Wind north east when I went for my walk in Bouctouche, N.B.”
Charlotte Jenkins: “East south east showing on our weather station here in Wentzell Lake. Beautiful sunny day 11 C.”
The common denominator seems to be “east”… Grandma Says: East is least!

Cindy Day....I Need To Say
Wow, I woke up this morning and saw a surprise in the sky,
The sun was shining so I hung my sheets out to dry.
I then relaxed out on my back deck for a while,
Wearing my capris and a huge smile!
I checked my Chronicle Herald to find what our weather lady had to say,
I soon found the weather report from Cindy Day.
She always lets us know what her Grandma would say...
I have full confidence in her words... for today!
As I hung sheets on the clothes line I checked the way the wind did blow,
Grandmas Says, “An East wind points to lots of dampness,” you know.
So with that in mind I will have to prepare...
For lots of aches and pains because dampness... will be in our air!!
