CINDY'S SNAPSHOT: Trilliums on the trail

It's been a difficult spring but now that the nicer weather is here, many of us are taking to the trails for some fresh air. Philip Capstick was out for a stroll on the Cape Split Trail when he came across this unique yellow trillium. This beauty caught Philip's eye as it was surrounded by a sea of more common burgundy trilliums. You'll find the Cape Split hiking trail on the beautiful Bay of Fundy near Scots Bay NS. It's a challenging hike, but the reward is well worth it!

Can you say gorgeous? Ronald O’Toole sent this ‘Sunrise at the Castle’ photo he took on Sept. 17 at Logy Bay, N.L. The sun’s rays look like the petals of a flower as it rises out of the Atlantic Ocean. Logy Bay is located near Torbay and is about 10 minutes from downtown St. John’s.

Judy Doyle sent this photo of deer visiting her property on Cape Breton’s Mira River on Monday morning. She said deer are frequent visitors to the area and yesterday she counted as many as seven walking along the river near her home. The deer silhouetted against the morning sun are a beautiful sight.

When hurricane Larry made landfall on the west side of the Avalon on Sept. 11, many things were blown around. Once the storm cleared, Don Simms found this lovely butterfly resting on a sedum in his yard in Mount Pearl, N.L. I wasn't sure what kind of butterfly it was, so I looked it up. Here's what I found. This beauty is a Vanessa Atalanta or red admiral: a medium-sized butterfly with black wings, reddish bands, and white spots.
