CINDY'S SNAPSHOT: So much beauty — so close to home

Regardless of where you live in Atlantic Canada, you don’t have to travel very far to find stunning vistas like this one. Wednesday evening, after the wind dropped off and before the sun dipped below the horizon, Mike Harvey set out with his drone to capture the spectacular colours of the fall foliage. He didn’t have to go far: this in Long Lake Park, a short 15-minute drive from downtown Halifax. There are always lots of good reasons to visit this lovely park in Spryfield N.S.; this weekend, it might be to check out those stunning colours! Thanks for the bird’s eye view Mike.

Can you say gorgeous? Ronald O’Toole sent this ‘Sunrise at the Castle’ photo he took on Sept. 17 at Logy Bay, N.L. The sun’s rays look like the petals of a flower as it rises out of the Atlantic Ocean. Logy Bay is located near Torbay and is about 10 minutes from downtown St. John’s.

Judy Doyle sent this photo of deer visiting her property on Cape Breton’s Mira River on Monday morning. She said deer are frequent visitors to the area and yesterday she counted as many as seven walking along the river near her home. The deer silhouetted against the morning sun are a beautiful sight.

When hurricane Larry made landfall on the west side of the Avalon on Sept. 11, many things were blown around. Once the storm cleared, Don Simms found this lovely butterfly resting on a sedum in his yard in Mount Pearl, N.L. I wasn't sure what kind of butterfly it was, so I looked it up. Here's what I found. This beauty is a Vanessa Atalanta or red admiral: a medium-sized butterfly with black wings, reddish bands, and white spots.
